🏆 Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League 2025: A New Chapter in Desi Sports

India's rich sporting tapestry welcomed a vibrant addition this April with the inaugural Global Indian Pravasi Kabaddi League (GIPKL). Held from April 18 to 30 in Gurugram, Haryana, this league celebrated the essence of Kabaddi, bringing together talent from across the globe. 

🌍 A Truly Global Affair

GIPKL featured 12 teams—six men's and six women's—comprising over 200 players from 15 countries, including Egypt, Kenya, Germany, and England. This international participation underscored the universal appeal of Kabaddi and India's role in promoting it on a global stage. 

🏅 Champions of the Mat

Men's Champions: Marathi Vultures showcased exceptional skill and strategy to clinch the men's title.

Women's Champions: Tamil Lioness emerged victorious, demonstrating agility and teamwork.

Overall Championship Trophy: In a historic achievement, the Tamil Lioness also secured the grand Championship Trophy, highlighting the league's commitment to gender equality.

📅 Match Highlights

The league's schedule was packed with thrilling encounters: 

April 18: Opening matches featuring Tamil Lions vs. Punjabi Tigers.

April 19-27: Intense league-stage matches with daily triple-headers.

April 28-29: Semi-finals for both men's and women's categories.

April 30: Grand finals culminating in a spectacular closing ceremony. 

Matches were broadcast live on Sony Sports 3 and streamed on the FanCode app, ensuring fans worldwide could partake in the excitement. 

🤝 Promoting Unity and Equality

Beyond the sport, GIPKL stood as a beacon for unity and inclusivity. The league's emphasis on equal representation and opportunity for women athletes set a precedent in the sporting world. As Ms. Kanthi D. Suresh, President of the Holistic International Pravasi Sports Association (HIPSA), aptly stated, "A platform like this ensures more gender equality, something as a woman in the business of sports myself, feel strongly about."
